Can you keep any wild fish, such as minnows with pet store bought guppies, neon tetras or mollies? Can you keep wild waterbugs with captive bred fish?

you mentioned quarantining and medicatiting them before I add the wild ones to my tank-how do I medicate them? And how do I know when to put them in my big tank?

I have never tried but based on years of experience with fish, i have a feeling that would not work and some fish would die.

I don’t think it’s a good idea. Wild fish/bugs/etc could bring in parasites. I wouldn’t chance it.
Good luck!

it will work under the right circumstances. (i have a wild-caught crawfish in my tank with a store-bought cichlid) they can carry parasites and disease so you should always quarantine them for a week. you also need to consider compatibility and how big they will eventually get.

Yes, If you medicate and quarantine fish for a few weeks.

Maybe, if they are compatible and can live in the same conditions.
Water temp may be an issue, local fish are likely to prefer cooler water, guppies and neons etc need heated water.
Compatibilty, will the ‘minnow’ grow big and eat the guppies?
Waterbugs, that depends, some are predators (like dragonfly larvae)and will catch and eat small fish. Others are fish food.
Best option is to set up a tank just for your local caught fish, then you can give them the right conditions.
Also sometimes those ‘local’ fish are actually released aquarium fish. There are several places around New Zealand where you can go and catch ‘wild’ guppies and mollies.
