Fish

My friend is moving from Texas to NJ and they have a fish they would like to bring with them.
How can they get this fish on the plane with them with all of the current liquid bans and regulations? Are there other ways to “ship” a fish that are safe?

Call the airline – seriously. Your friend may be able to freeze the fish – put it in a cooler packed with paper and send as checked luggage. Airline is best bet for info though…

I assume you mean a live fish…Taking it on a flight would not be a very good idea. Turbulence could easily over set the tank. And there are NO exceptions to the liquid bans. Your best bet would be to drive it. I’m sorry.

I had a hard time flying with a little Beta fish back in 1999.

With the liquid ban it seems you will be totally out of luck. There are absolutely no liquids above 2 oz allowed through the security checkpoints now. Checked bag is your only way and since it would be sealed the fish might die due to a lack of O2 flow.

No, your going to have to drive it. There are liquid bans, of course and also have you seen how luggage people handle your bags? Even if you mark fragile, you’ll end up with a dead fish, either squashed or hanging limply.

i think you could do it if you call the airport and tell them you want to bring a fish. a fish is just like any other pet, they should allow you to bring it, even though theres a liquid ban, but if they don’t let you thats stupid cuz, why would you want to make a bomb with water when a fish is in the water?

Put the fish in a bag with water. Now put the bag into a tupperware type container. Put the container into a box with up arrows. Go to the airline and check it as you would a bag. Tell them that you have a fish in there. They will show it as a live animal and put it into the cargo hold that is heated (usually room temp). If you don’t tell them that a fish is in there, they may load the bag into the other cargo hold that is not heated and may freeze your fish and kill it. I am not to sure what the cost for checking a fish would be. I think for a dog or cat it usually runs about $60-100.

yes there are other ways to ship live fish. it’s is how tropical fish find their way to pet stores around the world. Call around some shipping/mailing places. Or ask your big pet store chains for leads about shipping fish. Good Luck and don’t even try to talk your way into getting a fish on a plane.
