Is there a method of preparing fish/seafood that is less smelly?

Fish
My mother used to make fried fish occasionally, but I couldn’t handle the smell. If I bake the fish, will the smell be as strong? Is there a smell free way to prepare fish?

The best I can say is to wash the fish well in lemon or lime juice before cooking it. Do not rinse with water.

Three methods are less odorous!
1. poach filets in simmering water with salt, pepper, bay leaf and lemon slices.
2. bake in a milk with onion slices, salt & pepper.
3. grill outside, either directly on grill or in foil packets.

I heard that if you cook any seafood, it is best to add lemon or lime juice with some sugar and salt.
In chinese cuisines, whenever we cook seafood, we add strips of ginger and spring onions. Not only the smell would be “fresh” but also the taste of the dish. However, for preparing, we just soak the seafood in water with a hint of lemon juice.

You could cook it outside or cook it in a covered dish.
It’s the frying that gets really smelly…

I never make fish in the house, because I can’t stand the smell:) We always BBQ it! Salmon, swordfish, halibut and shark are all good on the bbq … especially with teriyaki marinade

Baking, broiling or grilling will cut down on the smell a bit.
The key is to get freshest fish possible; they should have little or no smell. Ocean fish, scallops, and shrimp should smell like seawater when fresh.
The fresher the fish, the less fishy smell you will have when cooking.
If you do get strong smelling seafood, soak your it in milk for 30 minutes to 1 hour. This will remove the fishiness and give it a fresh flavor.
If you fry fish, use a highly refined vegetable oil, peanut oil, or shortening, which has a higher smoke point.
