I love goldfish but they are messy and you could only get one in your 10 gallon. You could get a trio or quartet of FEMALE bettas, that would look nice. Or you could go all out tropical and get a heater and get some neon tetras, but while pretty, not the hardiest fish.

Try to start out with some platies, but if you get male/female mixes expect fry. Platies are great because they are mild mannered and come in many different colors.

I don't recommend mollies for a 10 gallon. Mollies usually need 20 gallons, and a long tank, to thrive. Females usually come home from the petstore pregnant and soon you have scores of fry on your hands. White clouds are very hardy, mild mannered fish and even some cherry barbs too.

I think that neon tetras would be great in a 10 gallon tank together.

WRONG!!!

each goldfish needs 20 gallons of heavily filtered water. its time to return those goldfish! however, here are some beautiful fish for your 10g tank once you do that. the link under each fish is a picture

dwarf gourami

Cardinal tetras

Galaxy rasbora

Guppy

Dwarf corydoras

Dwarf lamprolagus

some of your many options! good luck! and remember, for gods sake, no oscars!!!

I would suggest Mollies... That's what I have in mine... If you get 2, 1 Male and 1 Female you'll also have some babies. I would also suggest leaving the babies in the tank. Although the adult mollies eat their young... Chances are moving them from tank to tank will kill them.

Goldfish are another good fish, for a ten gallon I would suggest getting only 2 - 3 No more than 4.

As to the other comment. A Oscar should not be in a 10 gallon tank, they grow to be very big, and it will not be enough room.

I don't know what Chuck T. was thinking but Oscars do NOT live in small tanks.

Tetras are really the only fish that will do in a tank that small.

i like small gouramis -- a couple honey gouramis and a dwarf gourami with a school of small fish like white cloud minnows and some ghost shrimp would make a great 10 gallon tank.
