My suggestion is for color and space.

3-5 neon tetra
1 dwarf pleco
1 dwarf gourami

Add a couple of plants (silk or plastic) for cover for the Gourami and a small log or stump for the dwarf pleco to hide.

Neons are should be kept in a school of 3 or more…with your tank size I would not go over 5.

Filtration is the key and I would do a 15 gallon filter.

Feed the dwarf pleco algea tablets and shrimp pellets.
The neons will eat flake food, as will the Gourami.
You could also put in a couple of blood worms for the Gourami from time to time.

A good replacement for the Gourami is a colorful female betta. A white female betta or something from the norm…granted the female bettas are not as colorful as the male Bettas…but they are good community fish…compared to possible issues with male bettas showing aggression to certain other fish.

okay first of all those fish that suck the wall the smallest one is a cory others can get the smallest of 8 inches long. So I would get 3 of those, 4 neon tetras, and 3 guppies or platies another good set up would be 3 cories and 7 neons.

One male betta is best for 10 gallons. You’ll need a low flow filter, a heater set to 79 degrees, a hiding place, some live plants, plant food and a water conditioner. Bettas do best on a varied diet, like all fish.

I recommend fish that easy to care for, not-livebreeders, generally hardy, and that stay small all thier lives.
Look at mix of neons, white cloud minnows, or zebra danios. For the algae eater, look at the Otocinclus Catfish. The oto’s stay small (around 2″), but do eat the algae off the walls and bottom.

With small fish like the ones above and that size of tank- I can suggest going with the ole ‘rule of thumb’- and try to stay around 1″ of adult fish per 1 gallon of water. This will avoid overcrowding, stress on the fish, which will help to maintain water quality.

Try this…a powder blue dwarf gourami+a school of 5 cardinal/neon tetras+a few ghost or cherry shrimps….shrimps will help your tank keep clean…the sucker fish is called pleco and they grow really about 1 foot and don’t belong to a 10 gallon…you could try dwarf pleco…but with the above mix I would drop the pleco…But first cycle your tank…gouramis and tetras should not be used for cycling…you can also replace the gourami with a betta…don’t mix betta and gourami…In a 10 gallon you could also mix guppies and tetras..danios are very hardy fish..although not so colorful…there are mollies, dalmation or black molly..but mollies are aggressive..you might wanna research what else could go with mollies…all these fish are tropical hence you will definitely need a heater…

Tetras are colorful, so are guppies. Stick with community fish like tetras, guppies, platties, mollies, sword tails, danios, barbs, etc. All can be found at local pet stores.
Try to keep with the rule that 1″ of fish = 1 gal of water

i like schooling fish. I would do tetras or barbs in that tank. I say or because they like to school and look amazing when they do, the tank is too small for schools of both.
I would recommend 7-10 rosy barbs or green tiger barbs, they catch the light and are really pretty.
You can add a common pleco, but beware they grow somewhat big and you might want to find a petstore that trades them in when they get big.
Remember with any tank compatibility is an issue. I once saw a lady buy a cichlid for a goldfish tank… the only happy one there would be the cichlid with a full tummy!

I have a ten gallon tank too. Allergie eaters ( the sucky fish) are great. I also have a eel that is fresh water.( like 1 dollar at pet store, really cool) Another one I have is a big black goldfish It has big ball eyes. Those are really easy and cool. I also have a freshwater little frog ( very easy) Another one is called a elephant fish. they have a long nose, ( its awsome!) I think goldefish are really cool. they come in all color and some have big ball eyes and others bright red heads and yellow stomachs. Very Colorful! GOOD LUCK.
