Take some water out…about 2/3 of the tank and replace it with water that is just cool to the touch..sounds like you have a faulty heater. I don’t usually use one for goldfish..they can withstand pretty cool temperatures unless they are tropical goldfish. I have an 85 gallon tank with tropical fish and don’t ever use a heater. It seems every time I have used a heater it fry’s my fish. I have had this tank for 10 years and have had one fish (a shark) for the whole amount and time and is very healthy and very big.

Goldfish are cold water fish and do best when the water in their aquarium is between 60 and 65 degrees. It would be best to not warm the tank up.

Just make sure that it is not sitting in front of a window where the sun will hit it. The constant warming and cooling of the water will be quite bad for the fish. Not to mention the algae that will grow to epic proportions.

    Blow Torch.

    or

You could take the inside of a kettle out and stick it into the tank and then plug it in.

Goldfish are coldwater fish, so unless it’s actually freezing in your house they should be fine.

Is the temp inside your house above 61F (15C)? If so, the fish will be fine.

If you’re worried, you can try putting a hot water bottle wrapped in a towel on the outside of the tank, this will raise the temp slightly (and slowly) – but I really don’t think you need to.

Goldfish prefer cool water. As long as the water is not near freezing, they should be fine. You should not ever change the temperature of fishes water quickly. That will put them into shock and probably kill them.

You can either buy a heater or turn on the light for a long period of time. However, if you leave it on too long, it can start a fire.
