Fish
I want to give my mom a small tank with some pretty fish for mothers day. She’s told me that fish calm her down,so i thought it would be a nice present.Im going to use a small setup from Wallmart that comes with the little(2 gallon i believe) tank, hood, undergravel filter thing, airator, light, fake plant, ect. im getting gravel, a small filter, some decorations, and fish food. I already have aquasafe for the turtles. What type of fish should i put in it that wont dirty the tank too fast or die too easily? I am thinking of a couple small angelfish but i want some variety. What are some small, attractive, hardy fish that dont produce too much waste, dont need a tank heater, and get along with angel fish?I was thinking of some of the ones that glow. Would that work?Or can you put algae eaters or water snails in with angelfish?Or possibly a small koi? I know fish grow to fit the tank, so as long as I keep it to a few fish i should be fine as long as i keep them in a little tank forever.

Black mollies are very nice. They will even “kiss” your finger if you put it in the water. They are easy to care for too.

Angel fish were the ones that came to mind for me. Go to a reputable pet store. The smaller, locally owned ones have helped me out in the past and they are knowledgeable. As a mom I like to watch the ones that follow each other in a group, they are tiny, don’t know the names, but I find it comical, maybe your mom will too.

you shuld get some guppies because it is a really hardy fish and it is alsa so small i don’t think so it would produce so much of waste.i have ten guppies and i only clean the tank 1 in 5 months.

To be honest, this is such a “broad” question, that it would be best to go to the fish store and ask what they would recommend.
Angelfish are pretty, as are Mollies, but both tend to pick up disease easily (”fin and tail rot,” and “ick” respectively).
These are easily treatable, but just be careful.
Do not mix very aggressive fish with docile types.
Neons (blue and red striped) and Rasboras (gold and black) are small, good looking, and compatible fish, that are also quite hardy.
A catfish or snail is always nice.
Good luck to you.

I believe that 2 gallons won’t be enough for even one angelfish (plus angelfish are tropical and require a heater). I suggest you going with a common single male betta fish or a few feeder guppies. Both of these options would not require a heater, and both species are pretty hardy (very economic too). Feeder guppies usually breed on their own so you can keep generations of them. You should definitely put in some water plants (ditch the plastic one included with the tank) and freshwater snails.

Angelfish are aggressive, so maybe you might not want to put them together with other fish. Snails and algae eaters would be nice since they would help with the algae. I have a huge tank and I have lots of ghost shrimps – they are small, somewhat transparent and eat the food leftovers and the fish poo, that would help keep the tank clean.
Usually, the general rule is to have a gallon for every inch of fish… so maybe you might not want to get too many fish as they might be too stressed out which could result in diseases or death.
Have fun with your tank =)

piranah!! cool calming and not fussy eaters.
Your tank is way too small for any fish to be housed comfortable. Even bettas prefer exploring space and heated water. They may survive in the 2 gallon, but they won’t thrive. You should just get a 10 gallon.

You can get a betta. It will not thrive, but if yeh wanna get a Biorb BABY of 4 gallons, you can keep many other fish. Bettas are still nice. Try get at least 1 plant and 1 rock. Best rock would be one that doesn’t have sharp edges. Plant best would be silk. Note- for best best rock, make sure the betta can swim through!

Go to the pet store and get some neon tetras & guppies at first to acclimate the water to the proper ph level, before you get any exotic or expensive fish. Give it atleast a couple of weeks, if the is straight water can kill the more expensive/sensitive fish. Angel are more sensitive and will often times kill each other under stress.

angel fish wont fit in a 2 gallon aquarium they need a 40 gallon minimum they get to 12cm i would put 2 guppies both males, because if you get 1 male 1 female the male will attack the female trying to fuck her and they will give birth to 20-30 babies and 2 females are ugly they are dull in color etc if i was you i would get a 5 gallon tank and give her 1 betta fish no more they dont get along with fish

First of all,go to a pet store that is reputable, not an everything-type store. If you get a small tank, you could put in one male betta, or 6 neon tetras or one small goldfish. You should get a little booklet explaining the basics of caring for fish. The set-up will need daily care and maintenance.Proper water conditions, feeding, temperature, etc.
Don’t put in a turtle with the fish;or a frog!
You can’t put much in a small tank, and fish that grow should not be put in small tanks. They’ll die instead of growing.
Koi are large fish, meant for 55-gallon or larger tanks or ponds. Angel fish need lots of swimming room and are not for beginners.

DO NOT PUT A KOI IN A TANK! Kois are to stay outside in large ponds. Try getting some goldfish or guppies. You can’t really put anything with a turtle. Frogs don’t work well with fish, but they’re hardy and last FOREVER! Snails are cute, especially if they have pretty shells. Saltwater fish are EXTREMELY hard to keep. If you get the water too salty, or don’t get it salty enough, they’ll die. Try getting one of those little sucker fish you see on the side of the tanks. It’s fun watching them try to move up and down on the side. Shrimp are fun too.

Tank will be too small for angel fish or koi. You could do the Neons or Cardinal Tetras, White Clouds, and/or a pigmy coryodoras catfish and/or algae eater. The rule is 1 inch of fish per gallon of water but you can double that with a decent filter system. Add a sprig of a plant called Hornwort and you are good to go. Look these up on the internet just Google them . Good Luck. !

Thats a very small starter tank, so shop around for a single beta. They can be very beautiful, and are kept in tiny little cups at most pet stores, which is horrible. A lot of the time half of them are dead in their cups. Do the beta a favor and give one of them a nice home. You could also get a twin beta tank, which has a divider in the middle. We tried to keep two of them together, but they are crazy fighting fish. You will need the divider or they tear each others fins up badly.

Angelfish do not stay small and are not very hardy especially for a small tank like that. I would go with a few Guppies, they do not need a heater and your mom would have fun watching the babies.Pick a breed of fish that stays under an inch or two in length as an adult. The rule is one inch of fish to each gallon of water. Fish do continue to grow to their adult size regardless of tank size, they just dont grow as fast, and it is not fair to keep a naturally larger fish in a small tank. Most of these small tanks do not come with heaters, most tropical fish need one.

I think a Crowntail male Betta would be nice. Also, maybe you should get rocks that are her favorite color and get a nice plant. I would get a Betta that matched the rocks to. Then everything would match and the Betta and you mom would be happy.
A$H!
DO NOT over crowd your tank. U can only get 1 fish per gallon (also depending on size). If u have too many they will produce to much waste in the water causing the amonia levels to rise causing you to flush some fishies down the toilet. Guppies reproduce like rabbits. U dont want any guppies. I would go with some barbs perhaps, or the mollies, they are very pretty and come in different colors like black, white, dalmation, red dalmation…. But i noticed they dont swim around too much. Now if its only 2 gallons like u said, i would just get One Betta fish. They are very pretty and elegant and you cant put 2 together or they will fight and kill eachother. They dont mind being alone. but u can find betta in a bluish color, pink, red and purple.. So good luck!!! You should look at some pictures online. I think a mom would like a Betta… like i said, very elegant fish!!

Hello~First off, I would not go with anything smaller than a ten gallon tank. Anything smaller isn’t suitable for anything but one maybe two small goldfish. And goldfish ARE dirty.
As for a nice bright, friendly, community tank, I would go with Tetras. Tetras are beautiful fish who do not kill each other and come in a huge variety of bright colors, shapes & sizes.
And tell Mom when it does come time to change some water, never change more than half the tank at a time. The fish need some of the bacteria left in the water and they will go into shock without it. And be sure to get some Declor. One drop per gallon will eleminate the chlorine in the water. And don’t forget the heater. Keep the tank at a nice steady 78 degrees & let the beauty begin. And yes, they are not only very beautiful, but they ARE very relaxing. And one more thing. When you bring fish home they will be in a plastic bag with water from their store tank in it. To keep from shocking them, let the bag unopened, float on top of the tank water for at least 20 minutes. Then you can turn them loose safely. Anymore questions? Email me anytime. I owned a Tropical Fish Store for almost ten years. I can’t imagine home without the little beauties.
Have fun, Lynnda~

I think you should stick with a betta fish for your tank size or a small goldfish. Anything else will either grow too big or be too difficult for you to keep in a 2 gallon tank

I agree with a Beta Fish. They are very colorful. I loved my parents one that they had. And they don’t really require alot from you. If we had a small tank like the one you said you had, then I would deff. get a beta
